About Project AIM, Student Support Services:

Project AIM, Student Support Services is a federally funded TRiO Program of the US Department of Education designed to assist students in post secondary education.

The Student Support Services (SSS) program provides opportunities for academic development, assists student with basic college requirements, and offers services to motivate students towards the successful completion of their postsecondary education. The goal of our program is to increase college retention, increase graduation rates of its participants, and facilitate the process of transition from a community college to a four-year college or universit y.

SERVICES

Academic Counseling-FREE

Project AIM's academic counselor will assist students in developing goals and educational plan; assist with personal conflicts, and guide students with registering for classes or identify financial resources.

Workshops-FREE

  • Workshops for participants related to effective student study strategies, basic computer concepts, financial aid application process, math, English writing and more.

Tutorial Services-FREE

Cultural Activities-FREE

  • Cultural activities help students appreciate and experience the various culturals of Guam, Marianas and other areas.  Project AIM's CULTURAL ACTIVITY scheduled once each term on a Friday. For more details PLEASE VIEW THE GCC or Project AIM CALENDAR, stop by our office, read the campus flyers or contact us at , 735-5594/5595.

  

Transfer Activity-FREE

  • UOG Campus Tour (for Project AIM participants ONLY)-FALL: Friday, Nov. 12, 2010., 9  to 11 a.m.

  

Mentorship Program

The mentorship program allows participants to interact with someone preferrably within the GCC Community by asking questions and providing guidance. Mentors are also good references when students need a letter of recommendation for a scholarship or references for future employment.

Who is Eligible?

Project AIM participants must have a need for academic support. In addition, be a citizen or national of the United States or meet residency requirements. They must meet one or more of the following criteria:

First generation college student – neither parent has a four-year college degree and/or

Fall with in income limits set by the US Department of Education and verified by our office, with supporting documentation; Students with disabilities (documentation required).

How to Apply

If you are interested in applying to the Program, please submit all of the following materials to the Project AIM, Student Support Services Office:

Student Application Form (UPDATED 8/2010)

Additional documents needed with application (UPDATED 8/2009):

Copies of you/ your parents income tax, Student Aid Report, AND current Award Letter
Copies of educational transcripts High School and/or college transcripts.
Copies of Birth Certificate, Passport or Guam Identification card AND GCC Student I.D.

                       CONTINUING OR RE-ENTERING PARTICIPANTS

Students who wish to CONTINUE receiving services or RE-ENTER Project AIM do not need to resubmit an application to requalify for Project Aim. However, to keep us updated with your contact information and the types of services needed to help you succeed in college, we require a 1) signed UPDATE FORM and 2) for the continuing or re-entering student to meet with the Project AIM Counselor or Director.

                               MID-TERM PROGRESS REPORT

                    INDIVIDUALIZED EUCATIONAL PLANS (IEPs)

Individualized educational plans help our participants develop goals for the term. Your goals could be academic or personal goals. This is also important to complete for the grant aid competition.

FALL 2010 SEMESTER DEADLINE: November 24, 2010

GRANT AID

OPEN APPLICATION: November 19-December 3, 2010 

DEADLINE:  December 3, 2010, 5 p.m., Please submit both the application AND activity report to Project Aim, Room 107, Building 100.

AWARDS: Issued at Fall 2010 Orientation

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must have a 2.5 semester gpa and above
*Be enrolled in a Math, English or one General Education class OR have completed all General Education requirements
*Pass the pre-screening and must have a MINIMUM of 5 sub-total points
