The Hospitality Institute was created in 1995 as a result of the Governor's vision for the establishment of a hotel school. The Institute uses the faculty from GCC's Tourism Department to teach a variety of classes catering to the needs of the hospitality industry. These Hospitality Institute classes are short, intensive, skills-oriented courses ranging from ten to twenty contact hours. Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association plays an integral part in supporting the Hospitality Instutite by providing the training facilitites in its member hotels. The philosophy behind the institute is to provide the necessary training as accessible to the market as possible and hence the use of training facilities in the heart of the hotel belt.

Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association has set up three levels of certification to recognize hospitality professionals who have completed the following training:

* Level One: Customer Service & 2 classes

* Level Two: three classes in addition to Level One

* Level Three: three classes in addition to Level Two

The Hospitality Institute utilizes state-of-the-art educational materials from the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Motel Association. Certain Educational Institute courses prepare participants for professional certification.
