GUAM GED TESTING POLICIES

Title of Credential: High School Equivalency Diploma

Eligibility for Testing:

Minimum Age: 16 years of age and not currently enrolled in high school. Individuals 16 and 17 years of age must provide the GED Test Examiner with a withdrawal form from the last high school attended and written authorization from parent or guardian.

Placement Testing: All applicants must meet the score requirements on the Placement Test to be eligible for the GED Test.

How to Apply: GED Test: The applicant must present a driver’s license or a photo identification and birth certificate or passport to the GED Test Examiner.

To Receive a Diploma:

a. Individuals may apply for a diploma after satisfactory GED test scores have been received from the GED Testing Office at Guam Community College, official GED Testing Centers, Military GED Testing Centers, or the GED Testing Service, Washington, DC.

b. Minimum Test Scores: A standard test score of 410 on each of the five tests and an average of 450 on all five tests.

c. Minimum Age: 16 years of age and have not completed high school.

d. Resident: Must be a resident of Guam. Non-residents who meet the minimum test score requirements may qualify under the following circumstances:

(1) the applicant is currently serving as a member of the Armed Forces of the United States on active duty assignment on Guam;

(2) the applicant’s last civilian school attended was on Guam or Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, Palau, The Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia; or

(3) the applicant needs the diploma for admission to a college, university or training program.

Official Transcripts: Test Scores are accepted only when reported directly by:

a. Official GED Center;

b. Transcript Service of the Department of Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support;

c. Veterans Administration Hospitals and Centers;

d. The GED Testing Service, Washington, DC.

e. A student must authorize the release of results to a third party.

Testing Schedule:

a. Placement Test: The placement test is administered once a month or as often as needed. Testing is conducted on the Guam Community College campus from 8:00am-1:00pm on the published test dates.

b. GED Test: The GED Test is a two-day test, administered once a month from 8:00am-1:00pm, each day as scheduled. The GED Test must be completed within a sixty day period. Otherwise, the candidate must retake all five tests and pay the full fee.

Retesting:

a. The waiting period for retesting is two months. If evidence of recent preparation is furnished, but six months if no additional preparation is claimed.

b. The highest scores achieved by the candidate will be reported and may not necessarily be the most recent scores. If retest scores are lower scores previously achieved, the retest scores are not reported. Test scores taken prior to January 2002 are not valid.

c. Candidates who do not pass the GED Test cannot be tested more than three times a year.

Fees:

a. The Placement Test is $25 payable at the door.

b. The Actual GED Test is $25 payable at the time of application; $6.00 per test on retests.

c. The request for an Official Diploma is $10.00; Miniature Pocket Diploma is $5.00.

d. The request for an Official Transcript is $10.00.
