The Certified Manager Program

The standard for managerial excellence.

What is the CM Program?
The Certified Manager Program is a professional training program that develops and enhances general management skills and prepares individuals to take the CM management certification exams. Those who successfully complete the CM exams achieve Certified Manager (CM) certification, a prestigious credential that recognizes competency and professionalism of managers in all fields.

The CM Program boasts a 30-year history of teaching real-world, application-based management skills and techniques.  Applicants must apply to the CM Program and meet criteria for education and experience to be eligible to take the CM exams.  A 15-month period is allowed for completion of all program requirements.  The classroom program features 3 printed study manuals, an online learning center and 3 assessment exams. The 3-module CM Program is organized as follows:

Management Skills I: Foundations of Management

Management Skills II: Planning and Organizing

Management Skills III: Leading and Controlling

Certified Manager Exams
The 3 CM exams coincide with content covered in the study manuals and online learning center. Each 2-hour, timed exam is comprised of 120 multiple-choice questions and tests knowledge, decision-making, and analytical skills. Exams are administered in paper and online formats. All three exams must be passed in order to earn the CM certification.

Scheduling
Flexible scheduling allows exams to be scheduled at a time that fits your schedule; 7-days a week, 365 days a year. Paper exams are administered by a proctor at the workplace or other approved location. Online exams are administered on a home or office computer in a secure environment. It is recommended that exams be taken one-at-a-time after completing each CM study manual.

Feedback

A written grade report is mailed to test takers after the 15th of each month. Exam results are reported as "P" for pass and "N" for no pass. The grade report provides scaled sub scores from 1-5 on specific content areas. The sub scores identify areas of strength and weakness where managers can focus continuing professional development. Online exams provide immediate feedback ("P" or "N"), in addition to the written grade report. Test takers who receive a result of "N" or no pass may retake the exam by applying additional study and repaying the exam fee.

Lifelong Learning

To maintain management skills, CMs make a commitment to lifelong learning. As part of a recertification program, CMs are required to engage in 10 hours of continuing management education annually and pay professional dues.

Why Certification?

Upon becoming CM certified, you will join a network of over 10,000 managers worldwide recognized for their management competency and professionalism.  The public "CM" credential attests to professional achievement, as well as a commitment to the management profession.  In addition to enhanced management knowledge and skills, CM certification promotes self-confidence and facilitates career opportunities and advancement.

Who are Certified Managers?

CMs comprise managers of all types employed in all industries.  They represent technology, aerospace, government, healthcare, education, manufacturing, engineering, utilities, pharmaceuticals, and all branches of the military.  They manage within companies such as Lockheed Martin, Honeywell, Bechtel, US Government, Pfizer, AT&T, US Army/Navy/Air Force/Marines and others.
