The Rotary Club of Guam is sponsoring two (2) $500
scholarships for tuition and/or books. These scholarships
will be made to Guam Community College students pursuing a
degrees in either Computer Science, Tourism or Business. The
scholarships will be offered annually commencing in the
Spring 1999 semester.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be admitted or enrolled in GCC pursuing a degree
in either Computer Science,
- Tourism or Business.
- Must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.75.
- Must be a resident of either Guam, CNMI, FSM or
Palau.
- Must show evidence of extracurricular/community
involvement.
- Must be available for interview(s) by Rotary Club of
Guam Scholarship Committee or
- attend one Rotary Club of Guam Meeting.
Application Procedure:
- Submit a completed application form.
- Submit official high school or college transcripts
which would include the most recent semester
records.
- Submit a minimum of two letters of recommendation
(one from an academic source and one from a personal
source) relative to the individual's qualifications for
the scholarship.
- Submit a maximum of 2 pages typed biographical
statement which includes life and career plans.
Selection Process:
Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship
Screening Committee, which will be composed of a member from
the GCC Financial Aid Office, the Dean of Student Affairs,
and an Officer of the Financial Affairs Department. The
Committee will make recommendations to the Rotary Club of
Guam Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Screening
Committee shall evaluate the merits of each applicant based
on the applicant's:
- Academic credentials
- Personal character
- Long-range career objectives
- The Rotary Club of Guam Scholarship Committee will
make the final selection. Recipients of the Scholarship
awards will be notified by the Rotary Club of Guam
Scholarship Committee no later than December 15th for the
Spring term (March 1, 1999 for Spring 1999 award), and no
later than July 1st for the Fall term. Recipients will be
expected to attend a Rotary meeting for the presentation
of the scholarship.
Forfeiture of the scholarship will result from any of the
following:
- Failure to maintain a cumulative 2.75 GPA
- Withdrawal from GCC
- Suspension or dismissal from GCC
- Conviction of a felony
