GCC awards four Spero-Perez Scholarships

GCC President Mary Okada on Thursday, June 3, presented scholarship checks from the Spero-Perez Memorial Scholarship Fund to Shian Marie Aricheta, a Criminal Justice major; Wanda Ililau, an Automotive Technology major, and Mary Ann Mendiola, a Computer Science and Criminal Justice major. A fourth scholarship recipient, Tammy Jones, was unavailable for the presentation ceremony. All four students received checks for $500 each.

The Charles W. Spero and Teresita T. Perez Memorial Scholarship is available annually to students pursing higher education at the Guam Community College. To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must

• be a resident of Guam & U.S. citizen or have permanent resident status
• be enrolled at least half-time pursuing a degree or certificate
• be in good standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better
• submit an application form and official transcripts
• submit two (2) letters of recommendation from instructors or professional references
• submit a short statement of the reason for selecting a particular program at the college and applicant’s long-range goals
